The first quarter of 2021 showed varying trends for the top Film & Television applications on Android in the United Kingdom. This review offers a glimpse into the performance of these apps, including downloads and weekly active users, based on data from Sensor Tower.
Disney+ saw a decline in downloads from 80 thousand at the end of December to 40 thousand by the end of March. However, revenue spiked, reaching 200 thousand in the last week of March. Weekly active users peaked at 1.8 million in the third week of February, then stabilized around 1.5 million towards the end of the quarter.
Amazon Prime Video experienced a drop in downloads from 88 thousand to 29 thousand. The app's revenue was negligible, so the focus remains on user engagement, which showed a dip in weekly active users from 1.4 million in late December to around 1 million by the end of March.
Channel 4 had no reported revenue, but downloads had a notable surge to 64 thousand in the first week of February before declining to 15 thousand by the end of March. Weekly active users saw a high of 240 thousand in the third week of February but then fell to 180 thousand by the end of the quarter.
Netflix, despite having no revenue reported, maintained a strong user base with weekly active users starting at 3.4 million and ending the quarter with a slight increase to 3.2 million. Downloads saw a gradual decrease from 40 thousand to 19 thousand over the same period.
BBC iPlayer also showed no revenue, but downloads started at 34 thousand and saw a drop to 16 thousand. Weekly active users fluctuated, with a low of 277 thousand in the first week of March, followed by a slight recovery to 290 thousand by the end of the quarter.
